STAR SEAN PAUL THROWS A CHALLENGE TO ZIM ARTISTS
JAMAICAN reggae/dancehall star, Sean Paul, has challenged top Zimbabwean musicians to embrace workshops and seminars to gain knowledge.
Responding to Mono Mukundu’s contribution about Zimbabwe’s top artists who shun workshops during the just-ended Island Music Conference (IMC) held in Kingston, Jamaica, Sean Paul said:
“Knowledge is power, that is the key here. There is nothing that can be compared to that knowledge.
“We are living in an information age, so as artists, musicians, to come to a conference like this is the best where we can get different stories.”
The Grammy award-winning star, who has toured the world and inspired generations, recalled how he learned from others before he became an international brand.
“I used to go to studios and that gave me a lot of information, it was something that I experienced myself.
“To come to this conference was something that I love as a lot of people here have a lot of knowledge, people who have been key players in the game, I have to experience myself.”
Sean Paul believes busy schedules should not deter top artists from attending workshops and seminars to learn about new developments in showbiz.
“As an artist, you need to keep your ears on the ground, you have to know what is going on in business.
“This (conference) is one of the best types of environment to get that knowledge and that info,” added the 51-year-old international star.
Mono was the sole representative at the conference where he rubbed shoulders with some of Jamaica’s big names like Beenie Man, Shaggy, Slice and Mutabaruka.
He got the blessings of the Ministry of Sports, Reaction, Arts and Culture to represent Zimbabwe.
Mono is set to hold a workshop giving fellow creatives feedback on what he learnt in Jamaica.
He also won the Outstanding Arts Personality gong at this year’s edition of the National Arts Merit Awards held in Bulawayo last weekend.
