TM PICK N PAY, CABS BOOST CANCER FIGHT

- Talent Gore

TM Pick n Pay and CABS have donated US$37 000 to KidzCan Zimbabwe to help provide cancer treatment and hospice services to children with cancer.

TM Pick n Pay raised US$22 000 for the charity by selling 73 000 cupcakes through its outlets, while CABS raised US$15 000 by donating every swipe made by customers in any TM Pick n Pay point of sale.

TM Pick n Pay managing director, Malcolm Mycroft, said it was important for corporates to support activities and initiatives that alleviate suffering within communities.

Mycroft expressed gratitude to his customers and employees for their support, adding that it was part of the firm’s culture to “give back to the people”.

“For us to be involved in something like this as a grandparent or parent, is a privilege. One thing I learnt a long time ago is that cancer does not happen in a month; it happens all the time,” he said. People support us in every way, even if it is a cupcake that is one more cupcake we sold,” said Mycroft.

CABS managing director, Mehluli Mpofu, said when TM Pick n Pay approached them to partner in this initiative, they gladly agreed.

“Childhood cancer is a devastating reality that impacts not only the young patients, but also their families. It’s a battle no child should face, yet countless children worldwide display incredible courage each day,” he said.

“Kidzcan has been leading the way in providing support, care and hope for these brave children and their families.

“Their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of young cancer patients are truly remarkable.

“Through medical care, emotional support, and financial assistance, they have become a beacon of hope for those in need,” said Mpofu.

Mpofu said it was their hope that the funds will bring smiles to the faces of brave children and their families as they fight cancer.

KidzCan’s chief executive, Daniel McKenzie, said that the donation would “go a long way to ensure that the burden of childhood cancer is lessened”.
