CREATIVE ECONOMY WEEK HAILED
STAKEHOLDERS in the arts sector have hailed the just-ended Creative Economy Week as a success.
Organised by the British Council, and several other funding and creative partners, the four-day event, saw creatives from fashion, music, poetry, comedy, and visual art coming together at different venues around Harare to map a way forward in attaining a rewarding sector.
The major highlight of the week was the “Scripts and Bars” show held at The Venue in
Avondale.
Five-time Zim Hip Hop Awards-winning rapper Indigo Saint’s proved to be a performer of note.
Backed by a live band, the rapper put up a good performance as he belted out his song Mdlali.
Rising pop musician, Kim Makumbe, also proved to be a good stage performer as she took arts lovers on a beautiful journey with her song Body, which has been receiving vast airplay on Trace Africa.
She went on stage in a sexy black dress that complemented her melodic voice, serenading her fans with exquisite dance moves.
Another highlight of the Creative Economy Week was a full day of arts interaction and talks held at First Floor Gallery on Friday.
This included Korokoza Creative’s Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) showcase.
Tawanda Mudzonga of Korokoza Creative said art is a path to financial growth.
“Korokoza Creative is so excited to be a part of Creative Economy Week,” said Mudzonga.
“It is an incredible beginning of changing the meaning of being an artist in Zimbabwe. Art is commerce.
“It is a largely untapped means of financial growth,” he said.
