WARREN PARK HIGH SCHOOL PREFECTS INAUGURATION

-

A HOLISTIC view of success encompasses far more than just academic prowess, said Warren Park High School headmistress during the prefects inauguration ceremony on Friday.

The headmistress Fatima Mukwekwerere urged the prefects to refuse to become ordinary even though they might rub shoulders with ordinary people.

She told them that a leader does not follow a path but leads a path, they are born to lead.

“The character development of a student is equally, if not more, important. The values, ethics and interpersonal skills that individuals cultivate play an instrumental role in their personal and professional lives. Beyond the classroom, students learn to navigate the complexities of relationships, teamwork and emotional intelligence. These qualities are the cornerstone of leadership and personal fulfilment, enabling individuals to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

“It’s not a position that matters in life but disposition, the forest of tomorrow is in today’s seed.

“Intelligence plus character is true education and that the roots of education are bitter but the fruits are sweet. It’s only in the dictionary that success is found before work, you should lead by example all the time,” she said.

She reassured the students that the prefects would act as the bridge between the students and the School, reminding them that if they encountered any problems they could always turn to the School authorities.

“As prefects your are leaders the torch bearers and it doesn’t cost anything, neither is there much effort needed in lighting up one another’s candle. Today I encouraged you all to be courageous, caring, considerate, kind, courteous, firm, and respectful as you carry out your duties.

“To all the students who passed their A-level and O-level exams, you did well and represented the school. Your hard work, determination and sacrifices have brought you to this moment. You have proven your ability to tackle challenges head-on and emerge stronger. As you bask in the glow of your accomplishments, remember that your journey doesn’t end here. It’s only the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities for learning, growth and self-discovery,” she said.
