COACH BENZA WANTS POINTS ON THE BOARD

- Veronica Gwaze

NEW Herentals coach Paul Benza just wants one thing — maximum points against newboys Arenel Movers at Luveve tomorrow.

In the worst case scenario, the coach says he will be fine if they get a point against their tricky opponents. His first game in charge saw his men lose 0-2 to CAPS United even though they competed very well in that game at Nyamhunga.

Benza replaced Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva during the off-season.

He had been assisting Mutiwerkuziva for years but now he is the boss of his family’s club.

“We played well in Kariba but, unfortunately, it was just not our day, it was just our first game of the season against a team that was already playing their second one.

“They had gotten the chance to correct mistakes from their first game which gave them an advantage over us.

“From what I noted in Kariba, we are in the right direction so we are not going to change anything.

“We have a full complement of our squad to select from and we are ready.”

Benza feels that last season, the team set a high standard for themselves and they have to live up to those levels and expectations.

They were one of the best clubs at home but they were exposed on the road.

They picked a meagre 14 points, in 16 away matches last season, out of a possible 48.

“We need to start picking the points, even if we are away, so we are going to fight in Bulawayo,” Benza said. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that we are the best we can be.

“These points will also be crucial for us not to pressure ourselves later in the marathon.

“If it comes to the worst, then maybe a point away will be okay.”
