Death of Rosemary Molly Siyachitema, A Consumer Protection Champion
It is with deep sadness that the NaƟonal Chairperson, the NaƟonal Board, Regional Boards, Management and staff of the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe announce the passing on of Ms Rosemary Molly Siyachitema on 1 February 2021.
Ms Siyachitema was at the helm of CCZ for over a decade. She was instrumental in ensuring that consumers were treated with fairness. She acƟvely parƟcipated in the whole process of enacƟng the Consumer ProtecƟon Act, right from the lobbying and advocacy, throughout the stakeholder consumer consultaƟons and draŌing, unƟl Government enacted the Act in December 2019. The Consumer ProtecƟon Act was launched by His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe, E.D. Munangagwa in October 2020.
Rosemary will be remembered for her awareness and educaƟonal skills, as well as her advocacy work on consumer issues within Zimbabwe and abroad. She managed to forge a number of stakeholder partnerships for consumer educaƟon. She also championed the growth of Consumer AcƟon Clubs and got them to parƟcipate in many consumer acƟviƟes. She was a Council and Board member of Consumers InternaƟonal, the mother body of more than 250 consumer organisaƟons throughout the world.
An avid reader, formally and socially, Rosemary was a philanthropist who gave a lot of her Ɵme and experƟse to issues relaƟng to consumerism and consumer rights, as well as social and community maƩers. She always found Ɵme to play her part. She will be remembered by many consumers for her numerous face to face engagements with consumers. May her dear soul rest in eternal peace.
