Regime change is not a crime

- Angry Tande

ON a number of times, we read and hear President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF fundamentalists accusing pro-democracy activists and opposition parties of being used by Western countries to effect regime change in Zimbabwe.

Is driving the regime change agenda a crime?

Regime change is something Zimbabweans have a right to do. In fact, the protracted liberation war was fought to effect regime change. So regime change is an idea that will always be put into motion each time the masses are not happy with the way the country is being run.

Zanu PF must never try to fool us. We are entitled to regime change. When we go to elections, we are given a choice — a choice to vote for a candidate we want to lead us. We do not go to polls to endorse Zanu PF and Mnangagwa’s misrule.

Ours is a multi-party democracy. It’s not a one-party State. By that, it means any party, if voted into power, must assume State governance. It has happened in countries like Malawi, Zambia and others on the African continent. Zimbabwe must not be an exception.

We hear of many people being called agents of regime change simply because they are in opposition formations or they hold divergent views.

Political activists who questioned Mnangagwa’s leadership were the latest to be labelled regime change agents, not to mention those being accused of cyber crimes. Zanu PF must stop this intimidation.

Whether Mnangagwa likes it or not, regime change is coming. We do not need anyone to tell us to change this regime. We are tired of its violence, corruption and disregard for constitutionalism.

Zanu PF and its supporters must not behave as if they are the sole stockholders of the country. They must not talk as if they are the only ones capable of running this country because the opposite is there for all to see.

More than 41 years of Zanu PF misrule has brought the country to its knees. It has reduced Zimbabweans to beggars. When we call for regime change, Mnangagwa must know it’s because he has let the nation down.

As the 2023 elections are fast approaching, we call upon all democracy-loving Zimbabweans to register to vote. They should come together and peacefully effect regime change.
