URBAN grooves musician Desmond “Stunner” Chideme (41) yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mushavakure facing a domestic violence charge, but his case was deferred to May 13 after the State filed an application for postponement.

The State had initially requested that the matter be set for June 2, but Chideme, who is being represented by Dumisani Mutombeni, contested the postponement saying the matter should not be delayed behe cause had a brand to protect.

This comes after the State mentioned that two security guards were supposed to testify, hence the call for postponement to June.

“My client is a wellknown celebrity in Zimbabwe and he is a big brand and everyone knows him, he is heavily dependent on music show endorsement deals. As we speak, some of his deals have been suspended and shows that had been prebooked have been cancelled pending finalisation of this case," Mutombeni submitted.

The musician is being charged with domestic violence which took place on April 10 after Stunner performed at a concept headlined by South African rapper Focalistic at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare.

Stunner is accused of dragging his wife, Dione Tafirenyika, out of a hotel room toilet demanding to see her cellphone.

When the wife refused to give him the cellphone, Stunner allegedly assaulted her and injured her fingers as he forcibly removed her artificial nails.

The State averred that he then continued demanding that she hands over the cellphone.

Tafirenyika reported the matter at Harare Central Police Station, leading to Stunner’s arrest.
