Chelsea reignite interest in Gordon
CHELSEA are rivalling Newcastle United in the chase for Everton's Anthony Gordon.
Newcastle opened talks with Everton last week after reviving interest in the 21-year-old winger, who is valued around £60million.
That price is well above Newcastle's estimate and they had initially proposed striker Chris Wood as a potential makeweight prior to him joining Nottingham Forest on loan.
Talks are continuing but Chelsea's presence at the negotiating table could help Everton achieve their desired price.
Chelsea are willing to strike a deal that would see Gordon stay at Everton on loan for the season and have also enquired after the Goodison club's towering midfielder Amadou Onana, offering a quick profit on the £33.5m paid to Lille last summer.
Everton are desperate for funds to be able to arm their new manager with reinforcements but would be loath to lose Onana.
Chelsea's aggressive approach to the transfer window does not stop there. They have also seen an opening bid rejected for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto, 19, and are back in touch with Benfica for midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
Chelsea have already spent £420m on transfers this season but have spread payments for those deals over record-breaking contracts up to eight-and-a-half years in length.
However, Benfica have been demanding the £106m buy-out clause for Fernandez and their other option, Moises Caicedo, is valued at £80m, though Brighton do not wish to sell this window.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to loan out goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina plus midfielders Cesare Casadei and Omari Hutchinson. They have also fielded enquiries from the likes of Roma and Everton for Hakim Ziyech.
