Munetsi’s market value skyrockets

ZIMBABWE international Marshall Munetsi’s transfer value has shot up more than 20 times compared to when he left Orlando Pirates as he nears the R250 million mark (US$15 million).

Just like he has done since arriving in July 2019, Munetsi has maintained his presence with solid displays at French Ligue One club Stade Reims where he has a contract running until June 2027.

The 27-year-old has established himself as a regular and has his name on the starting line-up whenever fit and available for selection.

Reims are in contention for one of the places available for the European club competitions.

Such has been Munetsi’s incredible rise that from being the teenager who arrived at the then first division FC Cape Town in 2015 with nothing but tenacity, he is now living his dream.

Munetsi played for a season (2015/16) in the Motsepe Foundation, then moved to Orlando Pirates who immediately loaned him out to Baroka (2016/17) and only made his debut for The Bucs in January 2018, 18 months after signing his contract.

After another 18 months and having totalled 37 appearances for Pirates, he was gone, leaving for France while valued in the region of R10 million (US$500K).

Fast forward to February 2014 and 126 games (27 goal contributions) later for Reims, Munetsi has his valuation estimated at almost R250 million, according to Transfermarkt.

There has been reported interest from English clubs who include Bournemouth, Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley and Watford.

Munetsi can play as a central defender, holding midfielder and further up the spine in attacking spaces.
