IN response to ED’s third term bid exposed, PHILASANDE MANDLA MALINGA says: Zanu PF has a two-thirds majority and can amend the Constitution. And that would be legal. That is why two-thirds majority is very important in parliamentary democracy.

SIPHO MNKANDLA says: That two-thirds majority must be obtained legally, but since we have a government that is law unto itself, the country’s Constitution means nothing to those in power.

NEW MSIZAN says: The reality is that Zanu PF is above the Constitution and no one is going to stop it if it decides to do what ever it pleases.

SIPHO MNKANDLA says: Zanu PF has a two-thirds majority in Parliament which it obtained illegally. In a Parliament and a government, that is illegitimate, everything about them is forced on people.

NOMORE RWAMBIWA says: The sitting President must not benefit from that amendment, according to the Constitution. It will be illegal for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend his two-term limit anyway.

RABSON MUKARO says: An amendment of the Constitution goes through the masses and if it passes, it will not benefit the incumbent, which means President Emmerson Mnangagwa cannot benefit from the amendments.

PHILASANDE MANDLA MALINGA says: The Constitution is drafted, deliberated on by the masses, and goes back to Parliament for first reading, second reading, third reading, passed into a Bill and then goes for Presidential assent. One way or the other, it is tabled before Parliament and the majority of parliamentarians have a say on whether it be passed into law or not.
