- BY KENNETH NYANGANI

GOVERNMENT has started preparations to host the 44th Independence Day main celebrations in Buhera district, Manicaland province next month.

Murambinda Town Centre will host the historic celebrations.

The Independence Day torch will pass through the Butcher area in Rusape where thousands of Zimbabweans were tortured and killed during the liberation struggle, proceeding to Dzapasi Assembly Point and finally Murambinda B Secondary School, the venue of the celebrations.

Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Misheck Mugadza said they had activated all organising committees to ensure the successful hosting of the event.

“We have started preparations by setting up organising committees which are already on the ground and we are leaving no stone unturned, we want to have the biggest celebrations in the history of Independence Day commemorations in the country,” Mugadza said.

“People should come in their numbers to celebrate this special day for our country.”

Destiny of Africa Network Manicaland province chairperson, Wilson Masokowere said they were excited to have Independence Day celebrations in Buhera.

“We are happy with the government move to decentralise the Independence Day celebrations and we will be in Murambinda in full force,” he said

“We have benefited from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s National Development Strategic 1 on land and housing in Manicaland. Mnangagwa has created a peaceful environment for us to work. If there is peace in the country, then we can work for the people.”
