World materialistic politics, death of democracy

- Isaac Mupinyuri

THERE is no peace in the world and the once democracy pioneers, the United States of America and European Union, are no longer serious funders of democratic institutions in the non-governmental organisations worldwide. Many dictatorships and autocracies are well funded.

These countries will do everything to strengthen dictatorship and never allow free and fair elections. State funds are looted by ruling parties to fund their campaigns against financially weakened opposition which must be funded by the pioneers of democracy — the United States and European Union countries.

Democracy is in a comatose state as there is determination on the part of super powers to take over the world economically. The partial lifting of sanctions by the US and efforts by Britain to engage Zimbabwe on the economic front is an indication of the thawing relations and London’s reluctance to take Harare head-on after rigged elections and the abuse of citizens by State security agents during and after elections. In a nutshell, it is now too risky to commit oneself in the fight for democracy as one may be killed.

Dictatorship is now too powerful as shown by gruesome moments Ukrainians are in. The once world powers US and Britain at sixes and sevens as Russia is pounding Ukraine.

In Syria, the US failed to dislodge the brutal regime. It is the same situation in Venezuela. The world is being taken over by dictators as seen by the Mali coups and its neighbours. Coup leaders are forming governments on the weaknesses of regional blocs. The African Union, Economic Community of West African States and Sadc are bystanders as dictatorships take over in the blocs.

The US and Europe have lost it to the Brazil, Russia, India and China . For as long as US and Europe fear the battlefield, China and Russian. Belarus and Iran will become the new masters of the world.
