- BY KENNETH NYANGANI

HOTELS and lodges in Buhera district, Manicaland province, have started raking in profits ahead of the 44th main Independence Day celebrations to be held at Murambinda growth point in the district next week.

Some of the hotels and lodges at the famous growth point are already fully booked ahead of the historic celebrations.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be the guest of honour.

Zanu PF Buhera North MP Phillip Guyo whose constituency is hosting the celebrations said there was a hotel and lodges which would be completed this weekend ahead of the celebrations on April 18.

“Preparations to host the Independence Day celebrations are now at an advanced stage, it is true that lodges and hotels are making money and we want to thank President Mnangagwa for bringing the celebrations to Buhera district and interestingly my constituency and this a way of empowering his people,” Guyo said.

“Every business is booming and our roads have been upgraded and we have 22 boreholes which have been drilled under the Presidential scheme and this is a major drought relief to my constituency,” he said.

Buhera South MP Ngonidzashe Mudekunye said this was a historic moment.

“We want to thank President Mnangagwa for bringing the Independence Day celebrations to Buhera, we never thought in our minds that we would host such an event,” he said.

Mudekunye said employment was created in his constituency as locals work in the construction sector.

Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Misheck Mugadza weighed in saying preparations were at an advanced stage.

The Independence Day torch will pass through the Butcher area in Rusape where thousands of Zimbabweans were tortured and killed during the liberation struggle, proceeding to Dzapasi Assembly Point and finally Murambinda B Secondary School, the venue of the celebrations.
