PASTOR PENS BOOK ON ABSTINENCE
SEX nowadays has become an ordinary thing and everyone seems to be indulging, be it married or not. Abstinence among youths has become the most difficult act to do and most of them have resorted to using contraceptives without bearing in mind what the Bible says about sex outside marriage.
Author, counselor and pastor, Kilton Moyo has penned a book titled Keep it Safe which seeks to inspire young people towards a mindset that is responsible, so that they can abstain from sexual intercourse. He said his book was also challenging Africa to revise their sexual mindset.
“People in Africa need to be taught from the Bible the importance of abstinence before marriage. For those who are married it is important to practice the act of faithfulness within the home and stop the practice of looking for sex outside the marital chambers,” he said.
Moyo pointed out that Africa had the highest abortion rate as well as many adolescent children who are pregnant and getting married. He said many children especially girls are growing in poverty due to early child marriages which destroy their lives and rob them the future that they are destined for.
“When people do these abortions we have to ask ourselves what God is saying about such acts, imagine all the bloodshed due to these abortions. Maybe this is the reason why Africa has so many problems because people have blood in their hands, 6,5 million children being aborted in Africa every year,’ he said.
“I am not downplaying the use of condoms. They are very good because they protect the body but what about the soul. The moment you have sexual intercourse outside the marriage then know that you are committing a sin and here the condom cannot protect you. So what I am basically saying is that when you abstain you protect both the body and the soul. Abstinence is for free and is trustworthy too,” he said.
Moyo said the book will help everyone who is a young person and those who are married. He also raised the issue that in the African set up, girls are the only ones who are expected to be virgins while boys are more like given the key to go around deflowering girls because their virginity is overlooked.
“Young men should abstain too because they want to marry virgin girls. These boys have to be taught the importance of keeping their virginity too as it also reduces the risks of infecting each other with diseases,” he said.
Moyo said he is intending to get the book circulating at schools in the city so that children can be taught about abstinence. He said they will be doing seminars around the city spreading the word of abstinence.
