Make it difficult for employers to fire you or deny you a job!

To enable me to demonstrate to you the sanctity of working hard in preparation for a better and brighter hence rewarding tomorrow I refer you to the following didactic biblical verses: Proverbs 14: 23 says, “All hard work brings a profit but mere talk leads only to poverty”, Jeremiah 29: 11 , “For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” and Proverbs 6 verses 10- 12, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest . . . and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.”

Scriptures talk a lot about working hard with happiness while serving God at your job workplace. Always work as if you were working for God and not your employer. The Bible and life tells us that hard work will always bring some type of profit. When we think about profit usually we think about money, but it can be anything. For example, hard work in school will lead to more wisdom, a better job, more opportunities, etc. Don’t be that person with big dreams who says I’m going to do this and that, but doesn’t. Don’t be that person who wants the results of labour without sweating. Gordon B Hinckley correctly observed that, “Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds”.

Melinde Coetzee advises that, “A sense of personal competence is essential to the development of a healthy self- esteem and sense

Career development can help you achieve greater happiness and fulfilment. Studies show that young people leaving school early, without career paths, are likely to face longterm disadvantage by having higher levels of unemployment and part- time and casual work, shorter working lives, lowered incomes and the increased probability of finding themselves in jobs with poorer working conditions and fewer opportunities for advancement. They also more often experience poorer physical and mental health, higher rates of crime and less often engage in citizenship activity.

The business environment has been endlessly experiencing negative changes such as economic downsizing and restructuring resulting in fewer hierarchical positions. At the same time the need for improving productivity while keeping a pace with continuously changing technology has also increased. Organisations, therefore, instead of hiring a new individual from the market prefer to promote their already existing employee to a specific position as he or she is already aware of the organisational culture and does not need to be trained. This requires a careful succession planning of employees and developing and

Cost- reduction strategies of the organisations are again very dangerous for those individuals who are not prepared to move on to the next level. If organisations have to cut down their operating costs, the employment of those individuals is at stake who are not employable or who have not performed up to the mark in past. Employees continuously need to upgrade themselves and show their talent in order to remain in the organisations till long.

Continuous changes and upgradation in the technology is also one of the major factors that bring change. Some individuals can keep a pace with the changing technology and are always ready to learn and adopt new IT applications while some show immense resistance which is not acceptable to the organisations. Employees need to keep themselves updated and show willingness to accept changes as and when they occur and mould themselves accordingly.
