WHILE other artistes are grappling to make it in the music industry, others are on a spring board of success.

Such is the story of a Bulawayo-based young, up-andcoming hip-hop and rhythm and blues singer Shanice Alaina Pullen who against the real or perceived odds is making it in showbiz.

Early this year, she was the only Bulawayo singer that was featured and performed alongside big artistes such as Jah Prayzah, Shinsoman and Sulumani in the Gloria tour song tilled Gloria you will rise.

In April this year, she made her debut regional performance where she performed in Gaborone, Botswana.

Recently she has been doing local shows and just last week, she shined at Bulawayo Carnival that was held at Queens Sports Club.

Sunday Life caught up with the song bird Alaina as she is popularly known.

“My mother is my manager and so she is doing everything in her capacity to ensure that my career is a success. Fans have also been coming to my shows and they are very supportive. Last week at Bulawayo Carnival the turnout was very good and this showed us as artistes that we are doing well,” said Alaina.

Alaina said she is working on her new offering which will be released soon.

“I am working on my new album that I am going to release sometime in September. I am shooting a video on some of the songs on my second album that are meant to support the album and have something for people to look out for,” she said.

Alaina further said she wants to consolidate her position within the music industry.

“As a new comer in the showbiz, fans are somehow sceptical on new artistes and hence this poses a challenge as one would want to prove themselves. As a result I am working flat out to win the hearts of my fans and that is my biggest obligation,” she added.

Alaina said she has all it takes to be a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

“The music industry has got its own challenges, having worked with some of the country’s finest artistes it puts a lot of pressure on me as people will expect me to match these seasoned artistes. With this, I certainly need to be strong and work very hard to gain more experience and strengthen my position,” she said.

Alaina began her career in 2008 but took it to the public in 2014. In July last year, she released her debut album called Welcome to me which saw her gain popularity.

Early this year, she released a single called We both lose featuring Bulawayo popular rapper Mr Kata.
