- Email : rutendochidawanyika3@gmail.com

LAST week’s article was about how to wear the latest shoe trends in summer, covering gladiators, sneakers and shower shoes. This week we look at more trendy summer shoes.

Loafers

These shoes can be worn by both men and women. They look like a collision of pumps and slippers. Loafers are comfortable and are trendy for the summer. They work well with most casual outfits, be it shorts, longs, dresses or skirts. In order to pull of the trend: Don’t go over the top — it’s easy to consider loafers as a big style statement. Therefore some go too far, zebra print, leopard print and tacky details! If you are buying for summer opt for paler shades in suede or soft leather. Go for neutral or pastel colours, so that you can wear them with different outfits.

Get the gap right — if you want to go sockless, do, but make sure your trousers aren’t sagging over your shoes. Linen and chino trousers are the best for summer, worn with loafers. Make sure the trousers either taper in near the ankle or leave a slight gap. If you want to wear socks, match them to the colour of your trousers.

Look after your feet — you have decided to go sockless and that’s fine but your feet will probably get pretty hot especially if your loafers are made of leather. Do wear secret socks if you are not feeling like socks, this will keep your feet dry and stink-free, and the shoes will be comfier too.

Platform heels

These are shoes, boots or sandals with an obvious thick sole, usually in the range of 3-10cm. Platform shoes may also be high heels in which case the heel is raised significantly higher than usual. Platforms are trendy, they have good balance too. Ways to wear platform shoes this summer: — When it comes to summer days, you might want to stick with lovely white outfits, possibly with some floral prints; have the platforms contrast and add a pretty bag that matches your outfit to make things pop.

— When picking/buying your platform shoes, make sure the platforms are not too narrow at the soles so that you can wear them without hurting your feet.

— If you want to achieve the sporty look you can go for a platform sneaker, combining them with a pretty outfit. It makes a relaxed look, no matterm how chic your blouse happens to be.

— If you need comfortable platforms for thet office do experiment with a pair that is more on the sophisticated side, pairing it with trousers, blazers and simple tees. You can also wear suits with platform slip on shoes, it works well too.

— Mini-skirts and platform sandals look awesome together, particularly during the summer. You can pair it up with a crop top to show off some abs while accentuating youry body.

— You can wear the look with a maxi dress, do make sure the dress has a slit up the side so we can have a peek at the platforms through the veil.

Block heels

They have been on a roll for quite some time now, they are back from the 70s trend. From high block heels to low square ones, if they are slightly chunky they are IN.

Block heels are so sophisticated and trendy in a retro cool kind of way. They are the definition of comfort and style. They look great with just about anything, from skirts to skinny jeans to dresses. Except loose, wide-legged trousers!!!

Block heels are the perfect way to stay trendy while keeping true to comfort. We love a good stiletto heel but a chunky block sandal or pump can still deliver a bold fashion forward statement. The heel of a shoe can change an entire look, from easy going chunky heels to rock and roll block heels.

Lace up heels

This shoe trend has been embraced mostly by

trendsetters. These shoes look similar to gladiators but they have laces. Lace up heels come in different heights; ankle, mid-calf and knee high. These type of shoes are more sophisticated and classier than gladiators, although they are worn in a similar way. Lace up heels are not meant to be covered by long pants or dress. If the lace up is knee high, shorts or a short dress will work well. When rocking pants they shouldn’t cover the ankles, an ankle lace up will be appropriate. So much variety to choose from this coming summer, go for what you suits you better and what’s comfortable for you. Keep in mind summer is all about bright warm colours, rock the shoe trends!!!
