Nothing changes in war-mongering character of imperialism

-

Vladimir Lenin’s views in his book, Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism, written in 1916 to analyse imperialism, continue to be valid today, argues a writer in an article published on the anti-imperialist online platform.

The writer notes that one of the main arguments in Lenin’s books were that imperialism favoured the formation of international monopolist capitalist associations which share the world among themselves, and the territorial division of the whole world among the biggest capitalist. Lenin concluded that imperialism was parasitic, exploitative and reactionary, and that it obstructed the development of national states and national capitalism.

“Imperialism prevents the capitalist development of those countries that have been colonised or semi-colonised. Furthermore, it brings about an imperialist-dependent capitalism in those countries, destroys and impedes the development of any progressive thing in the countries that it penetrates, and plunders the mineral and other natural resources of such countries . . . The United States, acting as the imperialist gendarme of the world with the general support of the Western imperialist powers under the umbrella of the United Nations, intervene immediately to suppress either the revolutionary movements or the ruling classes of the semicolonies opposing the interests of the imperialist powers. At present, the US-led imperialists occupy many countries in the name of “democracy and peace” or intervene militarily. It was not long ago that the United States occupied Vietnam and Soviet social-imperialism occupied Afghanistan. However, they had to withdraw because they suffered heavy blows. In short, nothing is changed in the aggressive and war-mongering character of imperialism.”

We note, “nothing is changed in the aggressive and war mongering character of imperialism”, and that expression sounds true and aptly explains why there have been attempts in recent weeks to ferment commotion in the country through the use of social media by western linked individuals and opposition political parties.

After the country successfully waged the war of liberation, gave locals the right to be masters of their own destiny in terms of the economy and political governance, there appears to be some relentless efforts by imperialists and their agents locally to reverse the gains of our independence. Just like Lenin put it, imperialists come under the cover of “human rights and democracy”, yet they will be instigating people to revolt against an elected government. That has been the plot under the cover of demonstrations against “police roadblocks”, new laws regulating the importation of basic commodities and some building materials.

The so called demonstrations under the banner of “Shutdown Zimbabwe” as well as demonstrations in the UK against Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa are all aimed at fighting the war on behalf of imperialists who are still keen to get hold of our natural resources and plunder them as they did before independence. The truth of the matter is that imperialists never tire, and they are working day and night to find ways of getting President Mugabe and Zanu-PF removed from power, and replaced by their puppets in the opposition sector whom they will control from the comfort of their offices in Europe and America. Nonetheless, the efforts for those pushing for regime change have not been successful, and will always fail, just like calls for peace loving Zimbabweans to down tools and not report to their work stations recently. We salute Zimbabweans for choosing to go about their business for the betterment of the country and their families, and also give a pat on the back to the country’s various arms of the security sector for maintaining law and order.
