AS the countdown to the National Youth Games scheduled for Chinhoyi from 15 to 20 August continues, Bulawayo Province are set to name their tentative team today.

A total of 208 athletes, 43 coaches and the 18-member management team from the City of Kings are expected to make the long trip to Chinhoyi for the games.

The athletes are expected to participate in eight different sporting activities which include soccer, netball, volleyball, basketball, handball, tennis and athletics.

In an interview on Friday, Sports and Recreation Commission Bulawayo Provincial Coordinator Simba Sam Dzvimbu said preparations were on track.

“Preparations have been ongoing for some time now with netball girls doing their training at Ross Camp. We have applied to the City Fathers to grant us a training venue at White City Stadium and we are expecting a positive response from them and we’re sure they will grant us permission,” said Dzvimbu.

Handball preparations are at Lobengula High School, in soccer, girls were training at Magwegwe High School, the tennis players were attached to their respective clubs due to transport problems while basketball players were at Eveline High School.

According to Dzvimbu, Zero Suppliers had donated T-shirts to the athletes, Liquor Hub had pledged to feed the team while 100 caps were also donated to the team.

A golf tournament will also be held on 30 July in order to augment the resources for the team.

Dzvimbu also said companies wishing to assist Team Bulawayo would be welcomed with both hands.

“Companies wishing to donate to the team are welcome, especially to supply water. We need about 750 units of bottled water per day for training,’’ he said.

According to Dzvimbu Team Bulawayo will camp at Eveline High School from 8 August before leaving for Chinhoyi on 13 August.
