COLLEGE OF CREATIVE ARTS — AFRICA (CCA-Africa)

-

CITY of Kings celebrated with the community on Friday, 24 June 2016 when the College of Creative Arts — Africa, favourably known as (CCA-Africa) officially opened its doors. Welcoming the guests, the Mayor of Bulawayo talked passionately about the music that soothes the soul. The college, an affiliate of Midlands State University (MSU) is the first college in Bulawayo to offer creative arts at degree level.

The Guest of Honour, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts at MSU, Dr Advance Viriri graced the occasion. He kept the audience in applauses as it was clear how proud the Midlands State University was, in expanding into equipping and mentoring CCA-Africa. He said, “The Midlands State University are delighted to have awarded the College of Creative Arts — Africa the prestigious affiliate status and recognises the value of imparting skills to upcoming colleges which are working into becoming universities.”

The promise of excellence was felt as he added that “The programmes that are going to be offered at this college are the same as the programmes that we offer at MSU. This is an opportunity for the local community to enrol with a university without having to relocate to MSU.” Now as you can see it’s possible to study from the comfort of your home, CCA-Africa brings the degrees home. The quality of education is as high as at Midlands State University, highly qualified lecturers, state-of-theart equipment, well-equipped film and television studios and one of the best Music Recording Studios and the digital music recording studio for those who want to specialise in Music Technology.

The niche of the College of Creative Arts — Africa falls into vigorous practicals that the students will undertake at the studios that are housed at the City Centre campus. The students will be working on the projects every week that will bring out the creativity of young and the old. It is a college that will go into the community to create and communicate as film, theatre and music students will be co-ordinating their activities within the community.

Dr Viriri noted that Bulawayo is regarded as the country’s cultural hub but did not have an institution that offers creative arts at degree level. He urged the arts industry to support this college and called upon artistes who want to get professional qualifications to enrol at the college. While there is so much potential within the young and the old in the creative arts, it is not yet fully experienced due to little or no exposure. It is good news that those who are involved in the content development for the soons to be digitalised Zimbabwe Television can now haveh access to well-equipped studios.

Enrolment and registration to start in August 2 2016 for the Bachelor of Arts Honours in Film and Theatre Arts and the newly-improved Bachelor of Science in Music Business, Musicology and Technology Honours Degree (MBMT). In support of the digitalisation programme which will provide a bigger and effective platform for the creative arts industry, get equipped and earn your livelihood immediately. This digitalisation will result in more t television and radio stations and this means more producers and content producers will be needed. It is therefore, befitting that the College of Creative Arts — Africa has come up with two-degree programmes.

The first intake is in August as has been said and a applications are in progress for those who have the fi five O-levels including English Language and two A-levels. Those with only one Advanced Level subject can take up a semester in access course and continue to the degree programme while those with any two Advanced Level subjects go straight into their degree programme.
