Masvingo gets $51 000 for road maintenance
MASVINGO City Council has received $51 000 from Zimbabwe National Road Authority (Zinara) for routine road maintenance.
The local authority has so far used part of the money for patching and laying of stones in the residential area and in the Central Business District (CBD).
According to a latest council report the local authority has engaged casual workers to assist in road maintenance.
“A total of $51 736, 25 has been received from Zinara for routine road maintenance and 29 general hands and one bricklayer have been engaged for a period of three months,” reads the report.
The report said storm water drainage clearance was done on several roads and in the CBD.
“It was reported that grave patching was carried out in the city covering a total area of 1 633 square metres for the past two months. It was reported that a total area of 306 square metres was covered in tar patching.
“The section also carried out stone laying, along Ingwe Drive Rujeko, gravel spreading on Phillip Chatikobo Street in Runyararo West, road margins along Hofmeyer and Rekayi Tangwena Streets. Storm water drainage clearance was done on several roads in the commonage and CBD,” reads the report.
Masvingo Province has received a total of $335 773, 80 for routine road maintenance for the first quarter of 2016 from Zinara.
Zinara chief executive officer, engineer Mr Julius Juma released a statement recently in which he detailed allocations district by district.
Chivi and Zaka have not received anything because they have not exhausted what they were allocated in 2015.
Bikita got $46 442, 79; Chiredzi Rural $49 500, 02; Gutu $48 585, 78, Masvingo Rural $53 514, 43; Mwenezi $49, 898,55; and the total for rural districts is $247 942, 57.
Chiredzi Town Council received $36 094, 97.
