Scorned woman burns own home

- Fairness Moyana Hwange Correspondent

THE adage hell hath no fury like a scorned woman rang true after a Dete woman went on the rampage destroying household property worth more than $ 2 000 before burning her homestead after suspecting her husband of infidelity.

Lusyuko Mudimba ( 22) of Lupote Village in Dete went wild after she came home and found various female clothing items which she suspected belonged to her husband, Reason Tshuma’s girlfriends before burning the couple’s property.

Mudimba who is facing charges of malicious damage to property told Hwange provincial magistrate Mrs Rose Dube on a circuit in Dete that she was angered by her husband’s alleged sex escapades which she said were hurting her and turning her into a laughing stock in the village.

She was, however, convicted on her own plea of guilty and remanded in custody to Tuesday for sentencing.

“I was angered when I found other women’s clothes in my house after returning from my rural home. When I confronted my husband about it he just brushed it aside, a move that further infuriated me. I had heard of his infidelity resulting in me destroying our property and torching our bedroom hut,” said Mudimba.

The court heard that on 23 February this year at around 9pm Mudimba who had just returned to her homestead from a visit had a misunderstanding with her husband, Tshuma over alleged extra marital affairs.

After they failed to resolve the issue, Tshuma left his homestead to put up for the night at a friend’s place.

Angered by her husband’s lack of remorse she went into a rage destroying their bedroom hut’s window panes before setting the structure ablaze. Property worth $2 618 which included beds, electrical gadgets, invertor, tables, car batteries and bags of cement went up in smoke.

On his return the following morning Tshuma almost passed out when he was greeted by a heap of ash from the burnt down property and hut which had been razed to the ground.

He reported the matter to the police leading to his wife’s arrest.

Tshuma’s last minute attempts to save his wife from jail after telling the court that he had since forgiven her were fruitless as she was placed in custody awaiting sentencing. Mr Tinomupeyi Mbiza appeared for the State.
