Gym launches first ever holidays Higher Performanc­e Camp

NYASHA Charandura Academy ( NCA) in collaborat­ion with Body Works gym in Bulawayo are launching the first ever holidays Higher Performanc­e Camp in Bulawayo on 8 August.

The programme will cater for athletes between the ages of nine and 25 and the main agenda is to help them boost fitness levels through addressing bio-motor abilities, preparing for major tournament­s and seasons.

In an interview with Sunday Life, Charandura, the founder of NCA and also the manager of Body Works gym said the camp which will start in the second week of August will run every year.

“The camp is more like a launch of a programme that is going to be continuous and is sport specific. It is a programme that will be running year round and we have already recruited athletes. We have also worked with a number of soccer clubs in the Premiershi­p and Division One,” said Charandura.

The NCA and Body Works gym also partnered the Global Sports Academy of Zimbabwe, National University of Science and Technology (Nust) Sports Science and Coaching Department of Zimbabwe, Sothern Region Division One Soccer League clubs Talen Vision and Bulawayo Chiefs Football Clubs and the Girls College Tennis Centre.

According to Charandura, Castle Lager Premier Soccer League sides How Mine, Bulawayo City and Chicken Inn have been training under the same system for some years and some youngsters have benefited from the NCA and Body Works in which seven of them were given scholarshi­ps to study in USA.

Athletes who wish to take part in the programme have to pay a subscripti­on fee of $100 a month which includes access to the gym and field training. Other sports like soccer and tennis will cost $50 a month and participan­ts will have access to the indoor facility and Higher Performanc­e training.

Meanwhile, the gym is also running the Biggest Loser fitness programme where teams have been divided into two.

“The Biggest Loser programme is open to anyone and those interested can come to the gym.”
