Bulawayo churches to host biggest crusade

- Sandra Tekere Sunday News Reporter

BULAWAYO is set to host one of the biggest church gatherings this year when more than 300 local churches and Christian organisations meet for the “Healing Jesus Campaign”.

The campaign, which will be held from 15-16 November at White City Stadium is fronted by Ghanaian Evangelist Bishop Dag Heward-Mills. Speaking at the launch of the crusade yesterday, Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo assured the organisers that Bulawayo will facilitate all that is needed to ensure that the crusade becomes a success.

“What is coming to Bulawayo is a big event as millions of people are expected to attend and get an opportunity to meet Mills, a spiritual leader and a great author. In his book, The Art of Leadership, he writes so much sense. He writes about qualities of leadership and I have become his disciple,” said Clr Moyo.

He said the crusade comes at the right time especially with the economic challenges prevailing in the country.

“People will get a chance to pray for Zimbabwe. From the crusade the city is expected to benefit economically as many attendees will be using hotels in the city. This should not be a once-off occurrence, but the beginning of many others.”

The campaign director, Reverend Erasmus Thompson-Mills, spoke at length about the “Healing Jesus Campaign” objectives.

He said: “Our goal is to preach the gospel to a 100 million under-privileged people of this world and to unite the body of Christ and the populace of this world.”

Rev Thomson-Mills said the “Healing Jesus Crusade” was a non-denominational outreach ministry which partners with local churches and Christian organisations to spread the word of God.” They have also witnessed a number of miracles across the world.

“The miracles include the blind receiving sight, the lame walking, chronic diseases vanishing, scores receiving their deliverance from demonic oppression and even the dead raised,” he said.

In an interview with Sunday News, Rev ThomsonMills urged members of the public to attend the crusade in numbers regardless of which church they belong to. Rev Thomson-Mills said Evangelist Heward-Mills has held 132 successful crusades since 2004 and has seen 10 429 478 decisions made for Christ.

“Evangelist Heward-Mills has held 28 crusades in the neighbouring country South Africa and this time the Lord laid on the heart of Evangelist to visit Zimbabwe with 14 crusades. The crusades will run throughout the provinces in the country between the first week of November and the third week of December. Bulawayo was chosen as the starting point as it is the second capital city and one of their senior ministers, Bishop Collin Nyathi from Harvest House International is from the city,” he said.

He said the aim of the campaign was also to win souls for Christians, strengthen pastors and leaders and unite pastors.

Evangelist Heward-Mill is also a medical doctor by profession and the founder of and presiding Bishop of the Lighthouse Chapel International Denomination (LCI). He has authored several books with 45 best sellers including The Art of Leadership, Loyalty and Disloyalty and The Mega Church. His books are available in 31 languages. Sunday News.
