Information and Communication Technology (ICT), your gateway to limitless opportunities

-

TRUST Academy ICT School in collaboration with the largest university in the country, the Midlands State University is currently enrolling for the following diplomas for January 2017:

Diploma in Management Information Systems (DMIS) Diploma in Telecommunications (DTEL) as well as

Diploma in Networking and PC Engineering (DNEP)

In this article I will provide more details on these programmes and how it benefit you to enrol for such programmes. MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS (MIS) What is Management Information Systems? Management Information Systems (MIS) is the study of how technology can be used to solve business problems and create new business opportunities. The MIS programme focuses on a mix of applied computer systems knowledge, communication and interpersonal skills, and a practical business orientation to produce graduates who are technologically savvy and have a deep understanding of business functions and processes.

The benefits of studying Management Information Systems

According to a 2012 News & World Report, 5 of the top 10 jobs (Software Developer, Database Administrator, Web Developer, Computer Systems Analyst and Computer Programmer) are in the Information Systems area. Employment in these Information Systems (IS) — related occupations is expected to rise 30 percent between 2010 and 2020. Salaries for MIS graduates are among the highest enjoyed by Information Communication and Technology graduates.

Everyone who works in business, from someone who pays the bills to the person who hires and fires, uses information systems. For example, a supermarket could use a computer database to keep track of which products sell best. And a music store could use a database to sell CDs over the Internet.

Information isn’t worth much if it doesn’t serve a purpose. MIS students learn how businesses use information to improve the company’s operations. Students also learn how to manage various information systems so that they best serve the needs of managers, staff and customers. MIS students learn how to create systems for finding and storing data and they learn about computer databases, networks, computer security, and lots more.

What you will learn MIS involves the analysis and design of systems, including areas such as computer networking, information security, database management, and decision support systems.

You will learn how to work in creative teams to develop cutting-edge products and solutions that might save lives, improve the environment or our standard of living and keep us connected. You may choose to concentrate on the analysis of systems, the design of systems, or the use of information systems and data communications networks in organisations.

An exciting range of careers is open to you:

Information Systems: application developer/ consultant, business analyst/consultant, business process engineer, systems analyst/consultant/developer, programmer analyst, software engineer, and database administrator.

Information Management: business analyst/ consultant, knowledge manager, IT project manager, business intelligence consultant, and ERP consultant.

Telecommunications is concerned with the design, development and maintenance of all aspects of voice and data communications systems — from satellite and optical fibre networks to data encoding, compression and encryption.

Telecommunication engineers are responsible for providing people with the ability of communicating with each other on the telephone and using high-speed data services. Why study a course in Telecommunications? Telecommunications is one of the most rapidly developing industry sectors globally. The practical, hands-on learning techniques used in this field are designed to guide graduates into careers as telecom engineers in programming, mobile communications, telecoms security and IP telephony.

In recent years, mobile phones have become commonplace, optical fibres have improved long distance communications and digital techniques have made networks much more sophisticated. Communications are of vital importance to all people and all organisations. That’s why studying telecommunications will give you the chance to become part of an exhilarating and everchanging industry and to look forward to a promising career path.

The main aim of telecommunications field is to equip both recent graduates and more experienced technical professionals with the technical and theoretical knowledge to succeed in this fast-moving field.

With the revolutionary advances in technology and the ever-growing global demand for high-tech products and services, graduates typically find employment in a wide range of fields, including: telecommunications operators equipment manufacturers service providers software houses other electronic engineering-based industries Other areas of interest include lecturing, management and marketing.

Graduates from telecommunications programmes are in extremely high demand in a global market that is growing faster than even the most enthusiastic forecaster might have predicted.

Patrick Fitzgibbons, PhD, associate professor of telecommunications at SUNY Utica/Rome suggests two simple truths that summarise the status and future of the industry: “It’s everywhere, and it just keeps growing.” For more information contact: Godwishes Simbanegavi, Head of ICT School — Trust Academy on 09-883690/74, Mobile: 0778617015, Email: godwishes@trustacademy.co.zw.
