Hair evolution for men

-

ALTHOUGH a lot of men will have had the same hairstyle throughout their entire life, ever since they were kids, there has definitely been a realisation in the last few years that there are more options available. The men’s hair revolution is finally here and huge changes in the years to come will definitely take place. We are only at the beginning, though some are still catching on.

The reason that there has been a recent outbreak in men seeking new styles and better haircuts, is because of “men grooming”. Men grooming only really started to kick off around 10 years ago. And while most men don’t have a clue how to style their hair — and still perceive hairstyling as a waste of time, more and more men are moving away from being “creatures of habit”.

This sudden interest in hair is because men just don’t have to have that neat haircut anymore, so they can experiment and will naturally look online or in magazines for inspiration. There are so many inspirational male figures whose styles are admired. Male grooming used to be such a taboo among guys, but with a lot of masculine celebrity figures endorsing male grooming products nowadays, it’s given men the freedom to take care of their appearance without being scrutinised for it.

Dictionary for men hairdos — Very popular on the streets these days. The undercut is a unisex haircut whereby the top section of hair is held in place while the side and back sections are cut, making the top longer and the back and side undercutting.

— Short hair waves are common. It looks like water waves on your head. They shave it in a certain way to appear like water waves.

— Hair that is shaved or buzzed on the sides leaving a strip of hair in the middle. It is often spiked up. Sometimes the strip of hair can be combed into an afro.

— The hair is cut short on the sides and is grown long on the top. This style was popular among African-American youth and men in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This hairdo is trending among the youth of late.

— Also known as the “frohawk”, this hairstyle is an approximation of a mohawk made without shaving or “buzzing” the hair on the sides of the head, thus allowing an imitation of the look of a true mohawk without having to commit to removing most of one’s hair. The name faux is the French word for false or fake, so it is a fake mohwak.

The hair is “dreadlocked” into individual sections using one of several methods, usually either backcombing, braiding, hand rolling, or locking in the roots. Dreadlocks can vary in size, tightness, and length. If well taken care off they really look good.

— A hairstyle originating from sub-Saharan Africa , popularised by Black Americans where the hair is braided into a series of French braid-like locks that cling to the head and travel down the neck. This hairdo has faded away over the years.

— Big hair hairstyle, natural comb-out, featured heavily in African-American culture, popular through the late 1960s and 1970s in the United States of America. Some are still into the afro and are still rocking it.

— This is when all the hair is shaved off from the head.

Face shapes and hairdos Receding hairlines — For receding hairlines you can cheat the balding by going bald. This way the receding hairline will not show. Eventually people will get used to your bald look and they will forget about your hair days.

The blessed ones, with the SQUARE face shapes (or so they hey say),say) can try a classic undercut undercut, or a buzzcut buzzcut. Those with square face shapes can pull off just about anything except the bald look.

Those with ROUND face shapes you have to create the illusion of height and angles, so keep your hair really short on the sides, and longer on top, as to create height, and length to the face. A messy v-cut hairstyle on top will do wonders.

An oval face looks best with a classic short cut: short on the side, and slightly longer on top. Creating some angles and volume on top can sharpen the face a little bit.

At the end of the day it’s all about swag and doing what you love, not what’s fit for you based on some rules. Looks matter yes, true that, but personality and overall style . . . now that’s something the best hairstylist can’t help you with. Hair grows back. It’s all about having fun with looks and fashion.
