NATIONAL Assembly Member for Umguza and Minister of Macro-Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Dr Obert Mpofu hosted a retreat for Zanu-PF leaders in his constituency over the weekend in Victoria Falls.

District chairpersons, secretaries and political commissars drawn from the constituency’s 19 wards spent the weekend touring the resort town where they engaged in various amusement activities. Also part to the retreat which started on Friday and ends today were traditional leaders and councillors from Unguza Rural District Council.

Some of the activities that the contingent engaged in include a boat cruise on the Zambezi River and game viewing, which some confessed were first time experiences.

Team leader for the retreat, Zanu-PF Central Committee member Cde Elizabeth Masuku said two more retreats would be held in coming weeks for the Women’s League and youth wing in the constituency. Cde Masuku expressed gratitude to Dr Mpofu for according them an opportunity to have a holiday outing in one of the country’s premier holiday resorts.

“What Cde Mpofu has done for us is amazing. We never expected it. This shows the type of a leader he is. We are confident that come 2018 he will retain his seat,” she said.

Headman Jealous Ncube Tshakalisa who was part of team said the retreat accorded them an opportunity to appreciate the country’s natural resource endowment. For some war veterans who were part of the treat, the boat cruise on the Zambezi River was reminiscent of the liberation war time when they crossed into the country from Zambia for operations at the front.
