Mlalazi whips tribal storm

- Peter Matika Senior Life Reporter

RENOWNED German-based Bulawayo born playwright — Christopher Mlalazi may have struck a couple of raw nerves with his rants on social media about the state of the country in the past few weeks.

In a series of rants, which he occasionally posts and then deletes, Mlalazi blames one group of people for the dwindling economy, regionalism and many other issues.

In one of his deleted posts Chris wrote, “Elitism within . . . people is killing Zimbabwe.”

The post was met with mixed feelings. He refused to comment on the issue when contacted for comment, professing ignorance over the which he said he nothing wrong with.

“No comment sir. I said all I wanted to say on my posts which I am going to repeat soon and I meant everything. Ongawabonanga ndabazakhe (tough luck to anyone who missed them). I think it is grossly absurd to have one tribe creating a problem in a country and also have people from the same tribe trying to offer cyber solutions. Ozwileyo uzwile.” Some people that commented on his posts said it was unwarranted for a man of his position to post such things. “Instead of witch hunting and pointing fingers, he should be imploring people to come up with a solution to the country’s problems. Instead he is busy riling up people and planting seeds of hate in people. He ought to rephrase himself. “What he forgets is that there are many people that look up to him and with such dirty and crude remarks he will plant weeds in the minds of our youths,” said a friend of his who requested anonymity. In a career that spans years Mlalazi has lifted many people’s spirits and has brought joy to many lives, with his comic side, through the arts and educationally. In most of his work he reminds people to be kind to one another and treat each
