Ukhozi FM’s Sibiya blasts media at Ncwane funeral

FAMILY and friends gathered at the eThekwini Community Church in Durban to pay tribute to the late gospel star at the grief bearing news of his death.

He died after a short illness after admission. He was 37.

Linda Sibiya told Ncwane’s wife, Ayanda to “close the doors and close the windows” to the media at the memorial.

He accused the media of writing negative stories about people and said “journalist­sjournalis­ts bury people while they are still alive”. “Sfiso is gone. Let him rest in peace. Enough is enough, just let him rest in peace. People are waiting for Ayanda’s house to be auctioned and his cars to be repossesse­d. Ayanda, mother and families, please close the doors and windows on journalist­s and jealous people.” He also appealed to the Ncwane family to settle internal matters between them instead of going to the media. “If you have issues resolve them between you. Let Sfisos Sfiso’s legacy live on. on.” The gospel singer and his wife were often featured on the covers of local magazines, opening up about their marriage and what keeps their relationsh­ip strong. The award-winning South African gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane died in Johannesbu­rg on Monday morning. A family spokespers­on confirmed that Sfiso had been rushed to hospital on Sunday night. “His wife called the paramedics. He was feeling weak and he was admitted to hospital at 7.30pm,” said Sipho Makhabane. The gospel star died less than 24 hours later. Ncwane family spokespers­on Mhlo Gumede confirmed that the singer was taken to hospital after a short illness. Gumede said he had been diagnosed with kidney failure. Ncwane was later moved to the intensive care unit where he died on Monday morning at 9.30am. “He loved his family very much. He loved his wife and son. It’s a traumatic time for them. He was a man of his word,” said Gumede. Ncwane produced award-winning hits including Phakama Nkosi yeZulu and Kulungile Baba. He won record of the year at the 2013 South African Music Awards. Th The e singer made headlines last year afteraft er he bought his pastor a R1.9-million Mercedes-Benz. The Kulungile Baba hitmaker said Pastor Anosike had “saved his life through prayer” and he felt he had to repay him. It was later reported that he was struggling to make the payments. Reports of the singer’s death hit social media after Twitter user Mmatona Ntuane broke the news.
