Lack of funding halts H’landers CEO search
UNCERTAINTY over sponsorship has halted Highlanders FC’s search for a chief executive officer as Ndumiso Gumede’s contract comes to an end this month.
Bosso are reportedly yet to conclude talks with their principal sponsor, BancABC with the current deal ending this year.
Acting chairman Modern Ngwenya said the process was on hold until such a time they were assured of funds to pay the CEO’s salary.
Gumede’s term had been initially expected to end in June this year but was extended to the end of the year.
He was roped in as Highlanders chief executive in 2014 as part of the club’s thrust to fulfill the Fifa Club Licensing Regulations.
Although a process had been initiated by the club’s human resources committee to search for the veteran administrator’s replacement early this year but that was put on hold after the club decided to extend Gumede’s contract.
A source at the club said once they are assured of funding they would resume the process.
“Without sponsorship it would be difficult for the club to hire a head of administration. The club is currently struggling with a debt of around $700 000 and with no assured source of income, it would not be prudent to hire the CEO,” said the source.
Highlanders are going through a transformation phase that started with a review of the constitution.
The new board will have a chairman and a deputy as well as a minimum of three committee members.
The main objectives of club licensing are to promote and improve the quality of all aspects of football in Africa.
It’s also aimed at ensuring that clubs have the appropriate infrastructure, knowledge and application in respect of management and organisation, adapting and improving the clubs’ sporting infrastructure and improving the economic and financial capacity of the clubs through proper corporate governance and control. club’s
