UNITED Kingdom-based Highlanders supporters also joined in on the club’s 90-year anniversary festivities when they recently held their own celebrations in Birmingham.

Qobolwakhe Mayisa, the UK Highlanders supporters chapter interim chairman said the club’s followers came from many parts of England for the celebrations with over 100 people in attendance.

“Highlanders FC supporters from all over the United Kingdom painted Birmingham black and white as they converged in Aston suburb to celebrate the teams 90th birthday. Dubbed Bosso@90 the celebration had Highlanders supporters coming from Portsmouth, Leicester, London, Brighton, Derby, South End on Sea, Manchester and Birmingham to dance the night away for the team,’’ said Mayisa.

The celebrations were split into two with an afternoon discussion and then a party in the evening which Mayisa said was well attended. Ex-Highlanders player Richard Ndlovu gave a brief talk before he cut the cake.

“Among the celebrating fans was former Highlanders player Richard Ndlovu who gave a short speech as he cut the Bosso@90 cake. This was the inaugural event of the recently established Highlanders UK supporters Association. The association intends to support the activities of the Highlanders football club with particular interest in grass root football development,’’ Mayisa said.

The UK Highlanders supporters chapter was established in October this year with numbers growing at a fast rate with Mayisa stating that they are targeting to have at least 1 000 paid up membership. Mayisa, who comes home on a regular basis, said he will soon hold talks with the club leadership to discuss areas where they can channel their efforts to.
