SUNDAY News has increased its readership nationwide by seven percent, the latest Zimbabwe All Media Products Survey released last week shows.

The survey, conducted on readership and listenership for the fourth quarter, is the first since 2014 to be national.

According to the report, Sunday News is the fifth most read weekly newspaper nationwide as the overall readership of weeklies rose from 31 to 51 percent.

Sunday News draws most of its readership from the southern parts of the country, but is also available all over the country. The report also showed that the paper increased its urban readership from nine to 10 percent while overall readership of weeklies in urban areas rose from 61 to 68 percent.

The report noted that the number of people drawn to the news section of Sunday News has increased to 50 percent of its readership from 37 percent in 2014. The number drawn to the Business section has also increased from eight to 11 percent.

Zimbabwe Newspapers’ (Zimpapers) Sunday Mail is the most read weekly paper with a market share of 27 percent followed by B-Metro and Kwayedza who take 11 and 15 percent market share respectively.

Presenting the survey findings at the National University of Science and Technology last week, which was hosted by the Zimbabwe Advertising Research Foundation, Topline Research Solutions managing director Mr Patson Gasura urged advertisers to take advantage of the survey in deciding advert placement platforms.

“This is not fiction but real data that can help you to choose where you want to advertise,” said Mr Gasura.

Nust director for communications Mr Felix Moyo added that the data was an eye opener for advertisers that had doubt on the circulation of newspapers by using word on the street.

“It is amazing how the real numbers that the survey found compare to the word on the street that people no longer read newspapers,” said Mr Moyo.
