WHEN most people achieve a reasonable amount of success, the norm is to never look back, paying little attention to where they came from. This however, is not the case for businesswoman Eunice Dlamini of M and M Joyous Events.

Dlamini, on 25 February held a thanksgiving ceremony to express gratitude for how far she has come in life. The ceremony was held at Bhena’s Villa and about 400 guests, made up of friends, family and fellow congregants attended the event to join Dlamini in her expression of gratitude.

Speaking to Sunday Life, the businesswoman described the thanksgiving ceremony, which coincided with her 55th birthday as something that, based on her interest and her experiences, she felt had to be done.

“A thanksgiving ceremony is a personalised inner interest based on where one is coming from. All my life has been about God and praying to Him. At the age of 40 I fell very sick and could not celebrate the 40-year milestone. I was sick for three years and I could have died at that time but God spared me. I have reached 55 years now and instead of celebrating the 55 years I found it appropriate for me to thank God for sparing my life that time. So many things have happened in my life but God has kept me to now,” said Dlamini.

Other than being grateful for life, Dlamini said she had a whole lot of things to be grateful for. Among these she mentioned her family, her bus i n e s s , her ability to be an inspiration and mentor to other women and good health. As someone who puts together other people’s events, hosting her own event was quite a different experience for Dlamini. “That was a big challenge for me. I was a bit jittery to have everyone and my team hosting me. Eventually I got comfortable though because my husband took over the pots and I was assured that people will eat well. The best part was that most of the food was from well wishers, I barely had to spend anything,” she said. The highlight of the event was Dlamini releasing her gospel album, He Is In Control, which is her first musical project. The album comes as Dlamini’s effort to glorify God and boast that even when life is at its crudest; God is still in full control of what happens to her. Dlamini admitted that she is not the best singer but her message is what counts. “I grew up in a Christian home, and we would have worship sessions every morning and evening. I love music and I love singing but my voice is not that great. So I worked with a young vibrant girl Nodumo Hadebe to help me sing for the album. I put up the songs and Octopus (Nathaniel Chipunza) did the cooking of the music. He assisted me by bringing in guys to back me up and play the instruments,” Dlamini said. The album is made up of six songs that all give praise and thanks to God. Titles to look out for in the album include, I thank Him for having taken me this far, He is in control, God is the helper and God loves me and I love Him.
