Bumbusi ruins deserve recognition

-

I WOULD like to bring to the attention of the National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe that there are ruins at Hwange that need recognition and rehabilitation as is done to other ruins all over the country. I take it for granted that NMMZ was not aware of the ruins.

The Bumbusi ruins were built by Nambya ancestors and are located in the Hwange National Park. The ancestors settled at Bumbusi before being driven away to give land to animals.

Sadly, the structure is crumbling due to gross negligence. The NMMZ should consider the ruins in its next plan of action.

I also appeal to the Nambya community to revive visits to the ruins. The onus is on the Nambya community to attach importance to the structure. There is need to visit the ruins regularly and also clean the place. The ruins are now more of an animal habitat than a monument.

This is an insult to ancestors who set up the structure with the sweat of their brows. Lawrence “The Penpusher” Moyo, Hwange.
