Foundation College gives second chance to scholar

-

NONSIKELELO Mguni is the epitome of the adage “the best things happen to those who persevere”, as she attained 6 O-level subjects with very good grades at Foundation College in the 2016 November Zimsec examination session. She scored: English Language A; Geography A; Ndebele A, Integrated Science B; History B; Biology C.

As per tradition, Foundation College has produced excellent November O-level 2016 Zimsec examination results. Numerous candidates scored a series of excellent grades. Top performers include Mushambadope Tinotenda who scored 8 As and 1 C, Maviko Theodatus (7 As, 1 B and 1 C), Chataika Nancy (4 As, 2Bs and 4 Cs).

Inspite of adverse social conditions in her life, as a single mother of one, Nonsikelelo has demonstrated to many that people should not allow their past to define their future. An elated Nonsikelelo gave a moving account of her past life. A former student of Nkulumane High School who sat for her public examinations in 2010 said that she had lost hope of ever succeeding academically after her father passed away and could not secure academic sponsorship.

In 2011 she fell pregnant and came face to face with the vagaries of life. As a bread winner she worked hard in the informal sector trading odds and ends. At the end of 2015, she resolved to go back to school in an effort to overcome her daunting experience. She made a passionate appeal for academic sponsorship from her aunt who had just left the country to work in Britain. Her dream came true when her aunt recommended her to register as a Form Three student and pledged to be her benefactor. Today, the young woman is basking in the glory of her success courtesy of the second chance given to her by her aunt and the conducive nondiscriminating learning environment at Foundation College.

Nonsikelelo was full of praise for her aunt and school. “I would like to thank my aunt for her goodwill and faith in me. I know her hands are full and lately she has also offered to pay for my younger brother’s fees who is doing quite well. My gratitude goes particularly to my English Language and Geography teachers, Mr Lovejoy Mpofu and Mr Alois Nyunyu as well as all who contributed to this watershed moment of my life. May God bless them. I have gained a practical lesson that sheer hard work, belief in one’s potential and prayer makes all good things happen. I look forward to sitting for Mathematics in the November session and I’m glad the deadline has been extended up to the 7th April, 2017.”
