A NON-GOVERNMENTAL Organisation, Women with a Vision Empowerment Trust (WWAVET) has embarked on a number of projects in Bulawayo aimed at empowering women both socially and economically.

WWAVET is a women led organisation with a vision of empowering women socially and economically by making them engage in self-sustaining projects that can generate income.

In an interview, the founder of the organisation, Miss Ntombikayise Ndlovu said the organisation was focused on empowering women and giving them opportunities to raise their own income.

“It is a women-led organisation which comprises 80 percent women and 20 percent men. These are people from Entumbane and a few from Luveve,” she said.

She said focus was on projects such as washing liquid, floor and gel making and poultry.

“As for poultry this is our first time, we managed to get sponsors from Moms Are Geniuses (MAGs) in collaboration with ProFeeds and we have boxes of chicks and bags of chicken feeds,” said Miss Ndlovu.

Miss Ndlovu said MAGs provided them with start-up capital which will be paid back once the business flourishes.

“We started on our own, we did not have funding from any institution. The board of trustees donated $100 to start which was used to open an account and to create our website for the organisation. As for the project the members contributed money so that we could start. We are equipping women who are both unemployed and employed at the same time creating jobs for those who are unemployed.”

One of the project members Ms Sithembiso Mpofu, said as women they were grateful that they are now able to raise income to look after their families.
