The Rotary Club of Matopos in conjunction with the Rotary Club of St John’s of Canada has embarked on an Adopt-a-Village project at Tshelanyemba and Mazwi communities that will benefit locals.

The project seeks to concentrate on six areas which centre on peace and conflict resolution, diseases prevention, water sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child welfare, basic education, economics and community development.

In an interview at Tshelanyemba Hospital in Matobo District in Matabeleland South yesterday where the organisation donated some medical supplies, Rotary Club president in Zimbabwe, Mr Shelton Mpinyuri said his organisation has embarked on the project to ensure that communities are empowered and will be able to sustain themselves long into the future.

“We have embarked on different projects in Tshelanyemba and Mazwi Villages which form Ward 7 under Chief Malaba. So far we have managed to get hospital equipment and school suppliers from Canada for Tshelanyemba and Mazwi. We are not going to stop on health issues, we are still going to go on with other projects which will help the communities in the long run,” he said.

Mr Mpinyuri said the Rotary Club will also embark on other projects like provision of water, establishment of the garden and irrigation.

“These projects will be running for up to two years.” In 2015, Canadians donated hospital equipment and school equipment.

This year they have also shipped in another container which consists of the items, and computers.

Rotary Club of St John’s representative Mrs Jillian Gibson said the goods were sourced from well wishers in Canada.

Chief Malaba thanked the Rotarians for their gesture.
