Newa missed

-

THE Matabeleland Press Writers Association (MPWA) shall never be the same without its founding chairman and prolific writer of all time departed Brother Aureen O Jays Newa.

Newa who passed away five years ago shall be remembered for his passion for community education, information and development. Newa wrote extensively on a number of topical issues and many will remember him for his scathing attack on child abuse, child labour, rape and selfishness. Newa had high propensity for human rights. To press his deep abhorrence for rapists Newa in one of his articles condemned all heartless sexual perverts who rape minors. He proposed that they be castrated to save the children from their menacing practises. Some of the distinguished regular contributors to the Chronicle and the Sunday News who worked with the late and great Newa include Lawrence “The Pen Pusher” Moyo, Kholiwe Nyathi, Eddious Masundire Shumba, Nhamo the spider Musengi, Kuda Kabila, Edson Son of the soil Sibanda and many others.

Newa was a great writer, he was an asset to the founding of MPWA in 1998. On the 22nd of May all his followers will be marking the 5th year of his death. The current members of the association shall live to cherish his writing legacy and vision to establish a community trust aimed at assisting the less privileged and vulnerable members of the society. Lawrence Moyo, Inyathi Centre, Bubi.
