Terror gang rampages Kwekwe

- Nyasha Majoni in Kwekwe

RESIDENTS of Redcliff in Kwekwe are living in fear after reports that a sixmember member gang carrying machetes is terrorising people in the area allegedly raping and robbing them.

This comes in the wake of reports that a woman from Torwood suburb was last week raped at knife-point and left for dead at a borehole by one of the terror gang members during the wee hours of Thursday morning.

The residents are now mostly fetching water from boreholes after Kwekwe town stopped water supply to the municipality over a $2,5 million debt.

A police crackdown earlier this week saw three men believed to be part of the gang being arrested in connection with the rape case and a spate of robberies and violence which rocked the area in previous weeks.

Although Midlands police spokesperson, Ethel Mukwende said her office was yet to get the report on the disturbances, Redcliff Deputy Mayor Councillor Vincent Masiiwa confirmed that residents were living in fear of the gang.

“We are all leaving in fear for our lives and the residents are very much concerned. I heard that a woman was in the early hours of Thursday morning raped at a borehole by a man who is believed to be part of this terror gang. We would be very much relieved if the police increase their patrol in the area,” he said.

Residents said they suspect that members of the gang were from neighbouring resettlement areas.

The resettlement areas fall under the jurisdiction of Chief Milton Ntabeni.

“We are appealing for the chief to reign in his subjects. We have failed to live in peace with his people,” said one resident in the town.
