Funds sought to send athletes to S Korea
THE Zimbabwe Taekwondo Association is seeking funding to send three athletes to next month’s World Championships in Muju, South Korea.
Benson Zwizwai, the ZTA president said they have managed to secure funding for one athlete and one coach for the global event which runs from 22 to 30 June but need funds for the other two. According to Zwizwai, Admire Tshitshiliza from Gweru is the athlete guaranteed of going to South Korea together with coach, Langton Chokwenda of Black Rhinos.
“One athlete is definitely going to the World Taekwondo Championships in Muju, South Korea. Admire Tshitshiliza of Gweru is going with coach Langton Chokwenda of Black Rhinos. We are also trying to raise funds for two other athletes but we are not getting any good signals from the corporate world,’’ said Zwizwai.
Spencer Kondo of Harare and the Bulawayo domiciled Vusumuzi Ncube are the two others with a chance of going if the money is raised. On the reason for sending Tshitshiliza ahead of Kondo and Ncube, Zwizwai said the process was done by the technical team. He said Tshitshiliza has a history of doing well for the country as shown by his good show at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville and is also the national champion in the fin weight category.
