THE continued demand for natural and herbal remedies for various ailments has seen a Masvingo herbalist taking the town by storm, as he claims that he is capable of treating complicated ailments that include cancer, diabetes and other known to be noncommunicable diseases.

Popularly known as Dr Tee Tin, 49-year-old Tichaona Maverevedze of Downtown is a traditional healer registered under the Zimbabwe Traditional and Medical Practitioners’ Council. He boasts of a vast experience in dealing with herbal medicine and treating a number of prominent people including pastors in Bulawayo where he started his trade in 1994.

Dr Tee Tin said he had an opportunity of attending a herbal school, where he acquired knowledge on a number of herbs with medicinal properties. He has left his job as a youth officer with the Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment to pursue his healing trade, which he described as a “calling”.

A visit to his surgery, proved how popular the dreadlocked herbalist, who is also a staunch Highlanders fan has become popular in the ancient city of Masvingo, with hordes of people yearning for his services.

People who had developed growth on their necks, noses and face constituted a big number of clients.

“Firstly, I was a florist working for a transport company in Bulawayo in the 90s. This is how my interest in herbs grew when my boss, a white lady, showed me some flowers that had medicinal properties and from there I started treating truck drivers of a number of ailments. But this is a calling and I had to later leave my job in Government as a youth officer,” said Dr Teen Tin.

He said his star shined more in 1994 when he started treating cancer and diabetes patients.

He said apart from the training in herbal medicine, the gift of treating people using natural medicines was inborn, as he would treat people during his boyhood stages. He would treat snake bites, nose bleeding and Sexually Transmitted infections (STIs).

“Sometime in 2002 when I was still in Bulawayo I treated one man who was battling penile cancer after doctors had suggested that his manhood should be cut off. Imagine I treated that man using herbs and he got healed,” he said.

Dr Tee Tin claimed that he had successfully treated his 13-year-old daughter of cancer on her left leg, after doctors had failed and the girl is now up and about attending school in Bulawayo’s Mzilikazi suburb without any problem.

“The girl is now doing Grade Seven in Bulawayo,” Dr Tee Tin said.

He called on Government to take herbalists or traditional doctors seriously, as they can help in eradicating most diseases thought to be complicated and incurable.

He said with his herbs, he can cure any disease including HIV-related ailments.

“I am surprised why people choose to fly to India and other foreign countries parting ways with huge sums of money when we have the remedies locally. As I am talking with you now, I am scheduled to go to Botswana where I have been invited by a prominent musician in that country with a relative suffering from cancer. There are also people who call me from United Kingdom in need of my services,” said the herbalist who moved to Masvingo in 2013 from Bulawayo.

Dr Tee Tin largely claimed that he could cure all forms of sexually transmitted diseases and helps women who suffer continuous bleeding.

He however, said when using his herbs a person should abstain from sex, otherwise the treatment will be rendered useless.

“When using my herbs, a person should not indulge in sex. One should complete the course without being intimate with a woman or man if it’s a woman being treated. If one follows instructions, definitely, healing will be inevitable. I believe cancer is spiritual and would want to be approached with some sense of purity. I also help those who have lost their lovers and want reconciliation, men with erectile dysfunctions and marital problems,” he said.
