- Sunday News Reporter

EASTVIEW High School’s A-level pioneer class of 2016 scored a ‘‘hat-trick’’ in the recently held Imbizo District Annual merit awards of the Better Schools Programme of Zimbabwe (BSPZ).

For its sterling performance, the school was rewarded with a BSPZ trophy and a certificate for clinching the Best 2016 performing A-level school in the district; BSPZ present and a certificate for its whiz kid — Precious Bhiri who scored 15 points in three subjects and a BSPZ certificate for attaining the highest ‘‘A’’ grades in agriculture at A-level.

The colourful ceremony held under the theme: “Striving for quality education through embracing the updated curriculum” was graced by the guest of Honour CBZ Bank manager Mr Prosper Dlodlo, Bulawayo City Council principal education officer Mrs Khumalo, Imbizo District schools inspector Mr Ngwenya, school inspector Mrs Nyoni, headmasters of schools of Imbizo District and numerous dignitaries at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music.

Eastview High school headmaster Mr Cleopas Pedzisa was upbeat that his school is set for national stardom. “Considering that this is our first crop of A-level candidates who have managed to shrug off a fierce contest from the district’s traditionally undisputed master scholars, I am optimistic that all things being equal, our school in the near future is destined for substantial prestigious national accolades.

As a relatively new and non-selecting school we are delighted to register such a feat. I wish my school’s past and present scholars all the best in their endeavours,” said M Pedzisa.

Whiz kid, Precious Bhiri weighed in, “I am humbled by the fact that I contributed to my former school’s glorious achievement. You probably are aware that this trophy, for Best Quality passes at A-level in the disrtict has been dominated by Petra High School from 20102015. For me to be part of a historic game changer that swings the winning formula from champions to perceived amateurs is a matter of gratifying selfactualisation.

“This is a precious gift to my former school which I will live to cherish for a very long time. My former school and parents have set up a worthy launch pad for my socio-economic empowerment. May God bless them.”

Eastview High School, a private day and boarding co-educational institution established in 2010 has phenomenally emitted shock waves in the academic performance assessment circles by producing outstanding debutants candidates in the school’s Oand A-level’s first public examinations.

In 2013 another pioneer O-level pupil in the November Cambridge Examinations O-level series, Mazvita Ndawana attained first position nationally in three science subjects; Mathematics, Biology and Geography.

For securing top positions in outstanding Cambridge learners in Zimbabwe, sponsored by the British International Examination Board in collaboration with the British Council and the Joshua Nkomo Scholarship fund, she was honoured with three invaluable certificates.

Basing on the new school’s outstanding performance it is appropriate to note, true like a compass needle to the north, the school is conforming to its motto “From Here You Shall Rise”.
