Speciss student clinches world-level academic award
UMAR Cassim, an Association of Business Executives (ABE) Marketing Management student at Speciss College Bulawayo Campus Business School, was recently awarded a Top Paper Certificate by ABE.
The Business student clinched the honour after an outstanding performance in the December 2016 ABE Level 4 Introduction to Business exam. ABE, a British based provider of business qualifications, has been operating internationally for over 40 years and at present has accredited centres in 46 countries.
Precious Mvubu, the Speciss College tutor who took Umar for the Introduction to Business module, was also awarded a Certificate of Achievement from ABE. An elated Umar says that he is overjoyed that his hard work culminated in the highest possible recognition.
“After many late nights and a lot of hard work I was elated and honoured to receive the ABE Top Paper Award,” Umar says.
The ABE award-winner thanked his tutors for their input in his success.
“My tutors were very knowledgeable in all subject matters which made my learning experience a lot easier. At first all the new concepts seemed difficult to grasp but Mrs Mvubu and Mr (Simbarashe) Mzikanwa explained everything in a practical way, using real world examples, which made it easier to understand,” he says.
Mrs Mvubu commended her award-winning student for his diligence.
“Umar was always a committed, self-motivated and hardworking student and I feel very happy to have contributed to his success,” the Speciss tutor says.
Asked about what exactly it is about her teaching methods that contributed to Umar and her other students success, Mrs Mvubu says that a variation in approaches helped students understand their studies fully.
“I would give the students assignments to work on and after every topic I would test them, however, in most cases I would use whichever method I found to be most effective in helping them learn,” she says.
Umar says that he intends to continue advancing his career.
“I am looking forward to the challenges ahead and achieving the goals I have set out for myself,” Umar says.
