11 Combat Group unit triumphant

THE 11 Combat Group unit emerged victorious last week at the Inter unit sports Gala held at 11 Combat Group Induna barracks.

Commander 1 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Augustine Chipwere said sporting competitio­ns measure the fitness levels of the units and foster close relations among members within the brigade.

There were four units that participat­ed in the sporting competitio­ns which were 11 Combat Group, 12 Infantry Battalion, 13 Reserve Force Battalion and HQ 1 Brigade.

The sporting codes that the four units partook in were football, volley, netball, endurance, shooting and tug of war. In football the 13 Reserve Force Battalion lost to 12 Infantry Battalion in the final by a goal to nil.

Lance Corporal Wisdom Ndlovu from the 12 Infantry Battalion was crowned player of the tournament, while the goalkeeper of the tournament award went to Lance Corporal Lot Sithole of the losing team.

HQ 1Brigade won 2-1 in the volleyball final against 11 Combat Group. In Endurance the trophy was lifted by 11 Combat Group. 11 Combat Group won in the tug of war competitio­n and in shooting the 11 combat Group units triumphed. HQ 1 Brigade also won 33-19 beating 11 Combat Group in netball.

The overall winners of the competitio­n were the 11 Combat Group unit after attaining maximum points for participat­ing in all the sporting codes.
