LOCAL bodybuilders will do battle in the Mr and Ms Bulawayo contest organised by the Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Bodybuilding and Fitness Association which is scheduled for 26 August at Elite 400.

Five-time winner Mr Bulawayo Lovemore Munyamana and current Ms Bulawayo Shantel Batch Greenland will not be contesting in the 2017 edition. The local bodybuilders, who are both trained by Simon Gama, are taking time off to concentrate on international competitions.

Part of their international assignments includes a Cape Town contest pencilled for next year. Selina Manuel, the 17-year-old Petra High School student, 2016 Ms Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Michelle Matsito, Mr ZITF Thabo Ngulube as well as Mr Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) first runner up Givemore Marufu will fight for honours.

The winners in the men’s and ladies categories will pocket $300 each. Event organiser Gama said preparations have begun in earnest.

“We are still weeks away from the Mr and Ms Bulawayo but the preparations have already begun as we do not want to leave anything to chance. Bulawayo is now a leading bodybuilding province in the country as our athletes have managed to win major competitions which include Mr Zimbabwe Ironman,” said Gama.

Participants are expected to fork out $5 entrance fee to take part in the provincial contest.
