Two carjackers arrested
TWO men from Bulawayo were arrested on Friday afternoon for allegedly robbing people of their cars on the pretext that they were hiring them.
Farai Nhiwatiwa and Dominic Tichaona Tichavangana of Njube appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Nyaradzo Ringisai yesterday facing four counts of robbery (carjacking). They were not asked to plead and the magistrate remanded them in custody to tomorrow.
State allegations are that during the period between 29 July to 13 August, Nhiwatiwa and Tichavangana connived with Robson Maxwell Senzawayi and robbed people of their motor vehicles. Senzawayi is said to be on the run.
The court heard that the trio would hire cars from the unsuspecting complainants purporting to be genuine customers intending to go to different destinations but would later rob them of their motor vehicles and valuables.
The two were arrested at Inyathi Business Centre and one car, a Honda Fit registration number AEI 3034 which they robbed its owner of in Rusape was recovered.
According to court papers, investigations are still in progress and there are recoveries which need to be done in Harare and Marondera where the accused are supposed to lead the police to the people they sold the cars to. However, it was not stated how many cars the accused stole. Mr Simbarashe Manyiwa prosecuted.
