Beitbridgeseeksfundsforsciencelabconstruction

BEITBRIDGE Town Council is appealing for funds to construct a new laboratory at Vhembe High School to help science pupils have a conducive learning environment and improve the pass rate.

Town Secretary Mr Loud Ramakgapola said the construction of a laboratory was aimed at improving the pass rate of science subjects since there were no secondary schools with proper laboratories in Beitbridge.

Mr Ramakgapola said: “We are appealing to the private sector to help in the construction. We budgeted about $20 000 this year but we will continue each year to make the provisions because we need about $300 000 to complete the project.”

“We started the project last year after noticing that there was no science laboratory in council schools and our children are not able to study pure sciences,” he said.

Mr Ramakgapola said without proper financial support, the project might take long to complete.

“We hope that by 2020 the school will start recruiting the students for pure sciences.

“Currently, the building is at slab level and with the rate we are going at, it might be completed at the end of 2019.

“The council together with some members of the community are helping in the construction of the laboratory.”

“Unfortunately, we have no partners, but only individuals who have donated some materials.”

He said the laboratory was an initiative which was set to help pupils doing sciences to have a proper learning environment and also be part of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme because most students in Beitbridge were not able to participate.
