Tsiba wishes Bosso well

- Mehluli Sibanda Senior Sports Reporter

FORMER Highlanders captain, Erick “Tsiba” Mudzingwa has declared that he has no resentment over his unceremonious exit from the club he has known for his entire football career.

Mudzingwa was last week told that his services were no longer required at the club since he was not in new coach Madinda Ndlovu’s plans. The former Bosso skipper said he was informed by the club’s chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube that Ndlovu had indicated that if he decides to stay, he would be a bench warmer.

“I was told that the coach said with the kind of squad he has I will end up sitting on the bench and he didn’t want that. I never spoke to the coach, I spoke to the CEO, he told me that the coach does not have me in his plans,’’ said Mudzingwa.

Before he was officially told of the decision to let him go, the news of his exit from Bosso were already all over social media. Despite that, Mudzingwa has no hard feelings and is instead wishing Bosso all the best for this season.

“Officially I was informed on Monday but it was all over Facebook by that time. It’s the coach’s decision, I have no issues at all and there is nothing I can do. No hard feelings from me, I wish them luck for 2018, I know they will do better than we did in 2017. There are still senior players who will guide the youngsters,’’ he said.

On his plans for this season, Mudzingwa is confident that he will be playing in the PSL this season since there has been an interest in his services from a number of teams.

“I will be playing in the PSL this season, there are teams interested but I cannot reveal the names at the moment,’’ Mudzingwa.

The 31-year-old made his Highlanders first team debut in 2007 under Methembe Ndlovu. He played for Bosso juniors from Under-15 in 2000. Mudzingwa has over the years been deployed at centre back, right back, left back and anchorman.

During his time at Highlanders, the hard working player attracted interest from Dynamos and FC Platinum but with the financial packages being offered by the two teams the same as what he was getting at Highlanders, Mudzingwa decided it was best to stay with Bosso. He went for trials at South African side, Baroka at the beginning of last year. There was no follow up on Mudzingwa from Absa Premiership club after they sacked coach Jacob Sakala, his assistant Edward Williams and technical director Mark Harrison.

What pains Mudzingwa is that he wrote off some of his signing on fees he was owed by Highlanders as a sign of his loyalty to the club. In 2016, Mudzingwa turned down a contract from FC Platinum because what the Zvishavane-based cub offered was what he was earning at Highlanders and Highlanders also indicated that they could match the signing on fee he was being promised by Kugona Kunenge Kudada.

“I didn’t move to FC Platinum in 2016 because the pay was the same as at Bosso and signing on fee which they wanted to pay, Highlanders had said they would give me the same but they ended up lowering it. When I spoke to the FC Platinum guys had already signed other players,’’ he said.

Mudzingwa was jettisoned together with other senior players, Ralph Matema, Allen Gahadzikwa, Tendai Ngulube and Simon Munawa.
