Thekwane High: For academic, sport, vocational education
To mould righteous citizens by providing a high quality and relevant, education and to be a institution of high Christian and Methodist ethics
Thekwane High School is a Methodist Church school, situated about 13 kilometres north of Plumtree, in Matabeleland South province, Zimbabwe. It is one of the earliest secondary institutions established in 1924 by Reverend Herbert Carter, a Methodist Church Missionary. It is situated near Thekwane River, which takes its name from the hammer-headed stork, “uthekwane”, which used to be common along its banks, and which is depicted on the school badge. Thekwane has had a difficult recent history, having struggled to re-establish itself after the destruction inflicted during the War of Liberation, against a background of
With the realisation that Thekwane is among the oldest schools in the country, the state of the buildings have deteriorated and hence call for major facelift.
With the support of the Responsible Authority, which is the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, the school embarked on major developmental projects spearheaded by the School Development Committee. (SDC).
The former students, Thekwane Alumni Association (TAA) have also played a major role in renovating the school. They opened TAA chapters in different places; notable ones are the Bulawayo Chapter, headed by Mr Horace Ndubiwa, the Harare Chapter headed by Mr Joshua Nyoni and the United Kingdom Chapter headed by Mr Mphoko.
The TAA has sourced paint to spruce up the image of the whole school, donated an E-Granary library, Whites boards and a lot of school furniture.
The Zimbabwe National Army (Mzilikazi Barracks) has also provided manpower to assist the school free of charge. Below are some of the projects which were undertaken in the past few years. Projects Staff house - An 8-roomed state of financial stringencies.
